🏢 ROLE OVERVIEW

The General Assistant will support daily store operations by assisting customers, maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring a clean shopping environment, and helping with stock-related activities.

Successful candidates will contribute to creating a positive shopping experience by ensuring products are available, shelves are well-organised, and customers receive excellent service.

✅ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

🤝 Customer Service

• Assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Help shoppers locate products and answer basic product enquiries.
• Address customer concerns or refer them to the relevant supervisor.
• Deliver excellent customer service at all times.

🛍️ Merchandising

• Replenish shelves according to store layouts and merchandising standards.
• Ensure products are displayed neatly and correctly.
• Check shelf labels and pricing for accuracy.
• Keep assigned departments fully stocked and organised.

🧹 Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
• Ensure aisles and walkways remain clear and hazard-free.
• Assist with general cleaning duties, including designated staff areas where required.
• Unpack and display newly received stock.

📦 Stock Control

• Report damaged, missing, or incorrect stock.
• Support stock-loss prevention initiatives.
• Ensure stock is stored safely and correctly.

⚠️ Health and Safety

• Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Use safety equipment where necessary.
• Report hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.
• Help maintain a safe environment for customers and staff.

🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Option 1

• Grade 10 (NQF Level 3) plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience

OR

Option 2

• Grade 12 (Matric) with no previous work experience required

Additional Requirements:

• Valid South African ID or valid work permit
• Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the area
• Basic numerical and calculation skills
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
• Ability to work effectively under pressure
