The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for Independent Correctional Centre Visitor positions available at correctional centres across South Africa.

About the ICCV Positions
Independent Correctional Centre Visitors are responsible for visiting designated correctional centres and engaging with inmates and Department of Correctional Services officials.
Their work includes recording inmates’ complaints, monitoring detention conditions and reporting matters that may require attention from JICS.
Preference may be given to applicants who live in communities close to the correctional centre for which they are applying.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 or Senior Certificate
- Computer literacy and the ability to work accurately
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Commitment to community service
- Knowledge of the Batho Pele principles
- Assertiveness and the ability to work under pressure
A valid driver’s licence will be an advantage.
Mandatory Community Nomination Letter
Every applicant must include a recommendation or nomination letter from a recognised community organisation.
The letter must:
- Nominate the applicant for the ICCV position
- Be issued by a recognised community organisation
- Be dated within the previous six months
- Be submitted with the application
Applications that do not include the required nomination letter may not be considered.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to perform duties that include:
- Visiting the assigned correctional centre daily
- Communicating with inmates and correctional services officials
- Receiving and recording complaints raised by inmates
- Reporting grievances and other relevant concerns
- Monitoring conditions within the correctional centre
- Identifying and documenting possible non-compliance
- Reporting deaths that occur in custody
- Monitoring and reporting the use of segregation
- Recording incidents involving mechanical restraints
- Reporting matters involving the use of force
- Assisting JICS officials during inspections and investigations
- Preparing accurate reports and maintaining relevant records
