This role is essential to our operations, and as a Shelf Packer, you’ll be at the heart of making sure our shelves are always stocked, neat, and easy for customers to navigate. Position Summary

As a Shelf Packer, your primary responsibility is to ensure that shelves are consistently filled, well-organized, and clean. You will assist customers in locating products, provide basic product information, and help maintain hygiene standards throughout the store. Your role is critical in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience for our customers.

This role requires a combination of physical energy, a sharp eye for detail, good communication skills, and a helpful, customer-first attitude. You’ll also work closely with the receiving team, merchandisers, and store managers to ensure all stock is rotated, arranged, and presented correctly.


Key Responsibilities

Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Stock Packing and Shelf Management

  • Unpack, sort, and neatly stack merchandise on shelves in accordance with store layout plans and planograms.

  • Ensure stock is correctly priced, labelled, and rotated using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.

  • Maintain a visually appealing shelf by aligning products, cleaning shelf surfaces, and ensuring that displays meet store presentation standards.

  • Quickly and accurately replenish stock to avoid out-of-stock situations on the sales floor.

  • Identify and report damaged, expired, or slow-moving stock to supervisors.

2. Customer Service Support

  • Greet customers courteously and assist them in locating specific products.

  • Offer basic product information, especially regarding location, availability, and alternatives.

  • Listen attentively to customer inquiries and direct more complex concerns to the appropriate team member or supervisor.

  • Maintain a positive, helpful, and approachable attitude at all times.

3. Hygiene and Housekeeping

  • Keep the sales floor and shelves clean, organized, and clutter-free.

  • Dispose of empty boxes, packaging materials, and other waste promptly and safely.

  • Adhere to hygiene and safety standards set by the store, especially in food-related aisles.

  • Support general store cleanliness, including cleaning spills or messes to prevent safety hazards.

4. Operational Efficiency

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency when completing tasks and assist with urgent replenishment when needed.

  • Work as part of a team to meet shift goals and contribute to the overall performance of the store.

  • Participate in routine stock counts, inventory control, and stockroom tidiness.

  • Report discrepancies, low stock levels, and potential stockouts to the department manager.

5. Personal Development

  • Show commitment to learning and self-improvement by engaging in on-the-job training.

  • Seek opportunities to grow within the company through hard work and dedication.

  • Attend all required training sessions and comply with store policies and procedures.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Shelf Packer role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Minimum of Grade 10 (Grade 12 preferred).

  • Language: Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).

  • Experience: No prior experience required, but previous retail or stock packing experience is an advantage.

  • Availability: Willingness to work flexible retail hours, including weekends, public holidays, and shifts (day and night).

  • Physical Fitness: Able to lift, bend, and move stock efficiently and safely for extended periods.
