Company : Truworths
Location: South Africa
Closing date: 31 July 2025
Job Overview
Are you passionate about fashion, customer service, and retail? Are you looking for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive formal training, and work in a dynamic, customer-focused environment? This cross-training retail learnership is designed for individuals who are eager to build a career in retail by becoming proficient in both sales floor and service desk responsibilities.
This structured learnership program offers a unique opportunity to earn while you learn. You will gain practical work experience in-store, receive classroom-style instruction, and complete required assessments to achieve competence in key retail operations. The program’s ultimate goal is to help you become a fully capable and qualified Cross-Trained Sales Consultant, equipped with both product knowledge and service capabilities.
The role is ideal for someone with a passion for fashion and retail, a commitment to learning, and a desire to build long-term employability in the retail industry.
Program Summary
Through this learnership, you will receive cross-training that prepares you to operate in both the sales floor and service desk environments. This includes exposure to customer interactions, merchandising, stock handling, payments, and in-store safety practices. The program focuses heavily on customer service excellence and stock management—two of the most important areas in retail operations.
In order to be successful in this role, you must show consistent dedication to both the learning and working aspects of the program. This means committing to a minimum number of work hours, studying for assessments, completing your training logbook, and passing the required evaluations.
Key Learning Objectives and Duties
As part of the learnership, you will take on the following duties and learning tasks during your time in-store:
You will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of practical work as part of your learnership. During this period, you will be exposed to different retail functions to develop your skills and gain hands-on experience.
You will be expected to attend learning sessions, study independently, and prepare for assessments and tests that evaluate your knowledge of key retail operations and customer service principles. This includes completing your learnership logbook accurately and on time.
On the sales floor, you will assist customers in locating the products they need, while providing friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service. You’ll learn how to approach customers, offer product advice, and help create an exceptional in-store experience.
You will gain experience in merchandising using the company’s MBP (Merchandise Best Practice) principles. This involves arranging products according to brand standards, promotional displays, pricing strategies, and maintaining the visual appeal of the store.
As part of your service desk training, you will process purchases and payments using the POS (Point of Sale) system, including handling cash, cards, and mobile transactions accurately and responsibly. You may also assist with returns, exchanges, and product inquiries.
You will be trained to assist in creating new store accounts for customers, ensuring correct data capturing, and providing product or promotional information related to credit and loyalty programs.
You will contribute to efforts that preserve and manage stock losses, such as monitoring product movement, participating in stock counts, reporting discrepancies, and helping prevent theft or damage.
Developing relationships with customers is a key focus. You will be expected to offer assistance in a polite, respectful manner, answer questions, and follow up when needed, helping to build a strong sense of brand trust and loyalty.
Retail involves ensuring the well-being of both customers and staff. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure shopping environment, which includes reporting hazards, observing security risks, and helping enforce health and safety protocols.
