Job Opportunity

University of Johannesburg is inviting applications for two Permanent General Cleaner positions at the Soweto Campus in Devland.

Successful candidates will help maintain a clean, hygienic, safe, and well-maintained university environment while supporting quality service delivery on campus.

📌 Applicants must reside in Devland. Proof of residence will be required.

Main Duties

Cleaning & Waste Management

• Sweep floors using brushes or dust control mops
• Mop floors using wet and damp mops
• Vacuum and spot clean carpets
• Operate floor scrubbing and polishing machines after training
• Dust, wipe, wash, and polish furniture and surfaces
• Empty waste bins and transport waste to collection points
• Replenish soap, toilet paper, and paper towels
• Clean toilets, urinals, basins, showers, and sinks
• Correctly use and mix cleaning chemicals as instructed
• Perform wall washing and inside window cleaning when required
• Carry out duties responsibly with minimal supervision

Compliance & Health and Safety

• Follow all health and safety regulations
• Implement university safety and fire procedures
• Promote safe working practices on campus
• Wear protective clothing and uniforms when required
• Ensure equipment and workspaces remain safe and secure

Customer Service Delivery

• Complete assigned duties professionally
• Record inspection and maintenance activities
• Maintain stock levels in allocated areas
• Cooperate with supervisors and clients
• Maintain respectful communication
• Report faulty equipment and hazards immediately

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 10 qualification
• Vocational Certificate (NQF Level 1)
• Relevant cleaning experience
• Must reside in Devland

Added Advantages

• Knowledge of basic cleaning practices
• Minimum 1 year cleaning experience
• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification
