Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting three Security Guards to join selected branches in Gqeberha, Midrand, and Jeffrey’s Bay. These permanent opportunities are ideal for experienced security professionals who are committed to protecting people, property, and company assets while delivering excellent customer service.

The successful candidates will ensure a safe and secure shopping environment by monitoring security systems, conducting patrols, controlling access, and responding to incidents in line with PSIRA regulations and Dis-Chem’s security policies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Security Guard, your duties will include:

• Protecting company assets, employees, customers, and store premises.

• Conducting routine patrols to identify and address potential security risks.

• Controlling access for staff, visitors, contractors, suppliers, and customers.

• Performing searches of personnel, vehicles, suppliers, and merchandise when required.

• Monitoring CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and other security equipment.

• Maintaining occurrence books, visitor registers, and incident reports.

• Investigating and reporting theft, suspicious behaviour, property damage, and unlawful activities.

• Ensuring opening and closing security procedures are followed correctly.

• Conducting daily inspections of vehicles and personnel.

• Responding quickly to emergencies and assisting emergency services or law enforcement when necessary.

• Enforcing company security policies and workplace safety standards.

• Providing professional, courteous, and customer-focused service at all times.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.

• Valid PSIRA Grade C accreditation.

• Current PSIRA registration.

• At least three years’ experience in a retail security environment, such as pharmacies, shopping centres, warehouses, or retail stores.

• Previous experience in a similar security position will be advantageous.

• Clear criminal and credit record.

• South African citizenship.

• A valid driver’s licence, own reliable transport, and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) will be advantageous where applicable.

The ideal candidate should possess:

• Sound knowledge of PSIRA legislation and retail security procedures.

• Understanding of fire safety, emergency response, and occupational health and safety regulations.

• Strong observation, surveillance, and risk assessment skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.

• The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.

• High levels of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.

• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

• The ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed security records.
