Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Store Supervisor / Team Leader to join our dynamic retail team. The purpose of this role is to drive store performance by leading a team to deliver exceptional customer experiences, maintain high store standards, and ensure operational efficiency in line with company goals and culture.
This role is ideal for individuals with strong leadership potential, a passion for retail, and the ability to manage people and processes in a high-paced environment. You will be entrusted with ensuring that the store runs smoothly, profitably, and in accordance with company policies and procedures. Your ability to inspire, motivate, and develop your team will directly influence the store’s success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Performance & Store Standards

Maximize sales by maintaining high standards in customer service, merchandising, and promotional execution.

Drive store performance by monitoring daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets and helping the team meet or exceed goals.

Continuously analyze store sales trends, customer feedback, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth.

Ensure visual merchandising, in-store displays, and product placement are consistently aligned with brand and promotional standards.
2. Customer Service & Image

Create and maintain a welcoming store environment that reflects the brand image.

Model and enforce world-class customer service standards.
-
Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring long-term satisfaction and loyalty.

Train staff on service expectations, sales techniques, and complaint handling procedures.
3. Operational Excellence & Cost Control
-
Monitor and drive store efficiency by controlling stock, labor, and other operational costs.

Maintain awareness of the company’s cost-conscious culture and ensure waste reduction at all levels.

Implement daily and weekly operating procedures to ensure effective execution of store functions, including deliveries, returns, inventory control, and POS operations.

Ensure proper stock rotation, shelf replenishment, and accurate pricing.
4. Compliance & Administration

Ensure compliance with all company policies and operational standards.

Oversee the completion of all administrative functions, such as cash-ups, petty cash, banking, shift handovers, and sales reports.

Ensure stock is received, stored, and accounted for according to SOPs.

Perform daily checks to maintain safety, hygiene, and store cleanliness in line with health regulations.
5. Loss Prevention & Security

Minimize stock losses through strict adherence to security, cash handling, and stock control procedures.

Regularly review shrinkage reports, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective action where necessary.

Promote a culture of accountability and awareness around risk and compliance throughout the team.
6. Leadership & People Development
-
Manage, mentor, and support a vibrant and diverse team of retail staff (“Dynamos”).

Take responsibility for performance management, including appraisals, coaching, discipline, and recognition.

Identify development needs and support training initiatives that upskill team members and prepare them for career growth.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive store culture that encourages teamwork and high morale.
7. Health, Safety & Store Standards
-
Enforce general safety, health, and hygiene practices throughout the store.

Conduct regular floor walks to ensure store presentation is in top condition.

Ensure all staff understand and follow emergency and safety procedures.
Job Demands and Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
-
A completed Grade 12 / Matric certificate is essential.
-
A diploma or degree in retail, business management, or a related field is advantageous and may provide a competitive edge.
Work Experience:
-
At least 1–2 years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership position in a retail store environment.

Previous experience managing a sales team and handling customer service in a high-traffic store will be beneficial.

Experience with store administration, POS systems, and stock control will be considered an advantage.
Computer Literacy:
-
Basic computer literacy is essential.
-
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) will be advantageous.

Ability to learn internal reporting and inventory systems quickly and accurately.
Language Skills:
-
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential.
-
The ability to speak additional South African languages is beneficial.
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
-
Ability to perform manual handling duties such as unpacking stock and merchandising.

Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak trading periods.
