Overview:

The South African National Parks (SANParks) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the permanent position of Housekeeping Attendant, based at Skukuza Rest Camp in the Marula Region of the Kruger National Park. This is a unique opportunity for dedicated and disciplined individuals who are passionate about service excellence, cleanliness, and environmental care to be part of one of Africa’s most iconic conservation areas.

Working in the Kruger National Park is a special experience that comes with the responsibility of upholding high standards of cleanliness and presentation to maintain the park’s reputation for exceptional visitor experiences. The role requires a person who is proactive, physically fit, reliable, and capable of working effectively with minimal supervision. This permanent role will involve working in an environment that values teamwork, commitment to safety, and environmental stewardship.

The successful candidate will be expected to reside within the Park and will form part of a larger team that contributes to maintaining high hygiene standards and visitor satisfaction throughout the camp.


Key Responsibilities:

The appointed candidate will be responsible for a range of duties which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Daily Cleaning Duties:
    Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of chalets, ablution blocks, kitchens, and surrounding guest areas according to the prescribed housekeeping standards and procedures. This includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning of windows, walls, furniture, and bathroom facilities.

  • Inventory Control:
    Ensure that all issued cleaning materials, linen, and equipment are properly accounted for. Maintain control over inventory items used during shifts and report any shortages or damages immediately.

  • Maintenance Reporting:
    Proactively report any abnormalities, damages, or faults in guest facilities and equipment to the maintenance or supervisory team to ensure prompt resolution and avoid guest inconvenience.

  • Equipment Care:
    Ensure that all cleaning tools and equipment are properly cleaned, maintained, and stored after use. Report any faulty tools to supervisors for repair or replacement.

  • Supply Assistance:
    Assist with the collection and delivery of cleaning materials, linen, and other supplies from storage or supply areas when required.

  • General Camp Support:
    Participate in additional duties within the camp such as gardening, sweeping of walkways, refuse collection, and general upkeep of the rest camp environment as directed by the supervisor or manager.

  • Laundry Duties:
    Assist in the laundry section of the camp with tasks such as sorting, washing, drying, folding, and ironing guest linen and staff uniforms as and when required.

  • Ad Hoc Duties:
    Perform any other reasonable tasks or duties as delegated by supervisors or camp management in line with operational needs.


Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Grade 12 Certificate (Matric):
    A completed senior certificate is essential and must be submitted with the application.

  • Housekeeping and Hygiene Skills:
    Proven experience or basic knowledge in housekeeping practices and standards is required. The candidate should be able to maintain a clean and orderly environment.

  • Health and Safety Knowledge:
    Understanding of basic health and safety principles in the workplace, particularly relating to handling cleaning chemicals and working in guest areas.

  • Communication Skills:
    Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal English. The candidate must be able to follow instructions and provide accurate feedback to supervisors.

  • Supervisory Skills (Advantageous):
    Prior experience in a supervisory or team-leading role in housekeeping or hospitality will be considered an added advantage.

  • Tool Handling Knowledge:
    Good understanding of proper handling, care, and after-use maintenance of housekeeping tools and cleaning equipment.

Working Conditions:

This position is based at Skukuza Rest Camp, which is located within the Kruger National Park. The successful candidate must be prepared to:

  • Reside inside the park in allocated accommodation

  • Work in a wildlife and conservation area with limited access to urban amenities

  • Work in shifts and possibly during weekends and holidays as part of a rostered schedule

  • Operate under the policies and rules of SANParks with a strong focus on conservation ethics and environmental sensitivity
