Job Overview

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) is inviting applications for 48 General Worker positions to support railway electrification, construction, and maintenance projects at Kemp & Wildrand.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are physically fit, safety-conscious, and interested in gaining valuable experience within South Africa’s rail infrastructure and engineering sector.

Successful candidates will assist construction and maintenance teams with various manual and support duties to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.

About the Role

As a General Worker, you will provide hands-on support to operational teams by assisting with material handling, site preparation, cleaning activities, and general construction support functions.

The role requires individuals who can work in physically demanding environments while maintaining high safety standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out duties and tasks assigned by Supervisors and Team Leaders.
• Load, unload, move, and handle construction materials.
• Assist with site preparation and maintenance activities.
• Remove waste materials and maintain clean work areas.
• Stack and organise materials safely.
• Sweep floors and keep operational areas tidy.
• Clean tools, equipment, and workstations.
• Use hand tools safely and correctly.
• Support railway maintenance and electrification teams.
• Follow workplace safety procedures and operational instructions.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 9 qualification or equivalent.

OR

• Minimum of 6 months relevant work experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Physically fit and medically fit for duty.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Safety-conscious and alert in the workplace.
• Willingness to work in a construction and maintenance environment.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be considered where applicable.
