About the Security Officer Position

The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, healthcare workers, visitors, and hospital property. Security Officers will enforce hospital security procedures, monitor access control, respond to incidents, and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

This role is ideal for individuals who have experience in the security industry and are committed to protecting people and public healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

As a Security Officer at Groote Schuur Hospital, you will be responsible for:

  • Controlling access and exit points throughout the hospital.
  • Conducting regular patrols of hospital buildings, parking areas, and perimeter fencing.
  • Investigating security incidents, criminal activities, and security breaches.
  • Compiling incident reports, statements, and security documentation.
  • Managing and controlling hospital keys.
  • Supervising outsourced security personnel.
  • Ensuring the safety of patients, staff, visitors, and hospital assets.
  • Responding promptly to emergencies and security-related incidents.
  • Complying with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and hospital security policies.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for these Security Officer vacancies, applicants must have:

  • General Education and Training Certificate (GETC), Grade 9 (Standard 7), or an equivalent qualification.
  • Current PSIRA registration as a Grade C Security Officer or higher.
  • Appropriate experience working as a Security Officer.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and after-hours when required.
