About the Position
The appointed candidate will assist with the creation and reproduction of orthophoto prints, aerial photographs, and other geospatial products. The role also involves operating specialised scanning, printing, and laminating equipment, maintaining imaging machines, managing photographic archives, and supporting the department’s cartographic and reprographic services.
This position is well suited to someone who enjoys working with technology, has strong attention to detail, and is interested in map production and image management.
Main Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Producing orthophoto prints using specialised printing equipment.

Creating orthophoto prints from digitally scanned images.
-
Scanning aerial photographs, film negatives, and hard-copy images.
-
Digitising images for production and archival purposes.
-
Operating, maintaining, and calibrating large-format printers, scanners, and laminating equipment.

Reporting faulty equipment and assisting with routine maintenance.

Laminating maps, aerial photographs, and other printed materials.

Supporting Artisans with general production activities.

Retrieving, storing, and organising aerial films and photographic archives.

Managing printing materials and photographic consumables.

Delivering completed maps and aerial photographs to the Map Distribution Unit.

Trimming maps and photographs produced on HP plotters.
-
Conducting stock counts and maintaining accurate consumable records.

Ensuring all work meets the department’s required quality standards.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:

Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).

No previous work experience is necessary.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:

Basic understanding of image correction techniques.

Knowledge of operating and maintaining large-format printers.

Familiarity with scanning and laminating equipment.
