Purpose of the Position

The Driver: Port Mobile Equipment will support terminal operations by safely loading, transporting and unloading cargo at the Saldanha MPT.

The successful candidate will be expected to operate the appropriate machinery in accordance with standard operating procedures, safety requirements and operational instructions. Proper equipment handling is essential to maintain efficient cargo movement and minimise damage to cargo, machinery and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate may be responsible for the following duties:

• Conduct daily inspections and pre-start checks on allocated equipment.

• Confirm that machinery is safe and operational before use.

• Complete daily equipment and task sheets accurately.

• Identify equipment faults and report defects to the relevant supervisor.

• Check and replenish fuel, oil and other required fluids.

• Operate assigned mobile equipment according to approved operating procedures.

• Monitor equipment performance while carrying out allocated duties.

• Operate articulated vehicles when required.

• Operate tractor and trailer combinations.

• Operate forklift trucks.

• Operate payloaders.

• Operate tip trucks.

• Report accidents, incidents and unsafe conditions promptly.

• Select the correct equipment and attachments for specific tasks.

• Change machinery attachments when necessary to handle different commodities.

• Complete required end-of-shift inspections and duties.

• Follow all applicable health, safety and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements.

Qualifications

• Matric or NQF Level 4

• Code 14 / EC Driver’s Licence

• Certificate of Competence for each applicable machine operated

Relevant Experience

Candidates should meet one of the applicable experience requirements:

• At least 2 years of relevant driving experience in Port Operations, Maritime Services or Warehouse Tally; or

• Basic literacy and numeracy combined with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
