Overview

South African National Parks is recruiting three highly skilled Field Rangers for the Wildlife Conservation Bond initiative at Addo Elephant National Park. This is a specialised conservation enforcement role involving anti-poaching operations, K9 support work, and high-risk field patrol duties.


Minimum Requirements

– Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
– National Diploma in Nature Conservation (advantageous)
– Certificate in Resource Guardianship (NQF Level 5) or equivalent (advantageous)
– K9 Handling Certificate (DH1–DH5)
– 1 year experience as a K9 handler
– NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Conservation Guardianship
– NQF Level 4 firearm proficiency (rifle and handgun)
– 1–2 years training/experience in nature conservation field
– Basic Field Ranger Training certificate
– Clandestine operations experience (advantageous)
– First Aid and Health & Safety knowledge
– Valid Code B driver’s licence
– Basic–intermediate computer skills (MS Office)
– Off-road driving skills (advantageous)
– Understanding of conservation laws and regulations


Key Responsibilities

– Conduct foot, vehicle, vessel, horse, and K9 patrols in protected areas
– Perform anti-poaching operations, including night shifts and overtime
– Participate in high-risk field deployments and surveillance missions
– Conduct law enforcement duties (arrests, evidence handling, court testimony)
– Issue fines and manage compliance procedures
– Assist with rescue operations and medical emergencies
– Support visitor safety, gate control, and traffic management
– Work with other law enforcement agencies in joint operations
– Record daily activities and incident reports
– Conduct tracking, searches, and crime scene follow-ups with K9 assistance
– Maintain health, training, and wellbeing of assigned canine unit
– Support inspections of passengers, baggage, and controlled items
– Assist with park assets maintenance and operational logistics

– Salary includes basic pay plus allowances and benefits
– Appointment follows Employment Equity (EE) targets
– South African citizens will be prioritised
– SANParks may choose not to fill the post
