Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Merchandisers, Casual Merchandisers and Health Merchandisers across several provinces in South Africa. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining effective product availability, presentation and stock control within the store.

The role involves replenishing shelves, rotating stock, checking expiry dates, ensuring correct pricing and maintaining merchandising standards. Employees will also assist customers, monitor stock levels and support general store operations. These positions provide an opportunity for entry-level candidates to gain valuable experience in the retail and FMCG industry.

Requirements may differ depending on the specific position. For example, the Three Rivers Merchandiser position requires Grade 12/Matric and up to six months of retail experience, while one year of retail experience is considered advantageous. Candidates should review the requirements for the specific position they are applying for, particularly Health Merchandiser roles.


Key Responsibilities

Stock Replenishment: Ensure shelves remain adequately stocked and move merchandise from receiving areas and storerooms to the appropriate locations.

Product Availability: Maintain the availability of the full product range wherever possible and report low-stock or unavailable products to management.

Stock Rotation: Check expiry and sell-by dates and rotate merchandise according to the FIFO principle to ensure older stock is sold first.

Stock Quality: Identify and report damaged, expired or unsuitable merchandise to management.

Stocktaking: Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking activities when required.

Merchandising: Follow store layouts, planograms and company merchandising standards while ensuring shelves are neat, well organised and properly faced.

Pricing: Check that products have the correct prices and labels and report any discrepancies to management.

Displays: Build and maintain attractive product displays and ensure designated stock areas remain clean and organised.

General Duties: Assist with loading and off-loading stock, flatten and dispose of empty boxes correctly and assist with back-shopping where required.

Customer Service: Help customers locate products, respond to stock-related enquiries and provide friendly and professional assistance.

Compliance: Handle merchandise carefully, follow company procedures and comply with health and safety requirements.


Minimum Requirements

Education: Grade 12, Matric or equivalent.

Experience: The Three Rivers vacancy requires up to six months of retail experience, while one year of retail experience is advantageous. Requirements may differ between individual positions.

Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Office, may be required.

Communication: Strong English communication skills.

Availability: Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays where required.

Physical Ability: Applicants must be able to perform physical merchandising duties, including standing for extended periods and lifting or moving stock.

Employment Conditions

Employees may be required to work retail hours, weekends and public holidays. The position can involve lifting and moving boxes, loading and off-loading stock and spending extended periods standing and walking around the store. Applicants may need reliable transport or live within reasonable travelling distance of the relevant store.

For certain permanent merchandising positions, applicants may also be required to be South African citizens and have clear criminal and credit records.
