About the Shunter Driver Role
The successful candidate will work under the Warehouse Team Leader and will be responsible for moving and positioning trucks and trailers within the company’s yard and warehouse areas.
The role involves placing trailers at the correct loading and unloading points, moving vehicles between designated areas and ensuring that all movements are completed safely and efficiently.
Main Responsibilities
The Shunter Driver will assist with daily yard and dock operations by:

Positioning trailers at designated dock doors

Preparing trailers for loading and off-loading

Moving empty and loaded trailers around the yard

Removing trailers from docking areas when operations are complete

Following instructions from warehouse and yard supervisors

Keeping trailer movements organised

Reducing unnecessary trailer waiting time

Supporting efficient use of available dock space
The driver will also manage trailer positioning within designated areas, including spaces for loaded, empty or damaged trailers.
Trailer Hooking and Detaching
The position requires the driver to safely connect and disconnect trailers when necessary.
Drivers must ensure that landing gear and other relevant safety mechanisms are properly secured before releasing a trailer.
Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance
Regular vehicle checks form an important part of the position.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking items such as:

Communication and Documentation

The employee will also be responsible for accurately completing records relating to vehicle inspections, trailer movements and maintenance checks.
Security and Gate Coordination
The Shunter Driver may work with security and gate-control personnel to help monitor the movement and status of inbound and outbound trailers.
Accurate communication is important to ensure that vehicle movements within the facility are properly coordinated.
Driver’s Licence Requirement
Applicants must hold a valid Heavy-Duty/Commercial Driver’s Licence – Code 10/14 or an equivalent licence.

Work Experience
