  • Reducing unnecessary trailer waiting time

  • Supporting efficient use of available dock space

The driver will also manage trailer positioning within designated areas, including spaces for loaded, empty or damaged trailers.

Trailer Hooking and Detaching

The position requires the driver to safely connect and disconnect trailers when necessary.

Drivers must ensure that landing gear and other relevant safety mechanisms are properly secured before releasing a trailer.

Regular vehicle checks form an important part of the position.

The successful candidate will be expected to complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking items such as:

  • Lights

  • Tyres

  • General vehicle condition

  • Other required safety components

Any vehicle damage, defects or maintenance concerns must be reported to the appropriate supervisor without delay.

This includes observing:

  • Yard speed limits

  • Traffic rules and designated routes

  • Workplace safety procedures

Extra care is required when operating around busy or congested areas.

Communication and Documentation

The driver will maintain communication with the Warehouse Team Leader using a two-way radio or other approved communication system.

Updates may relate to trailer locations, movements and changes in trailer status.

The employee will also be responsible for accurately completing records relating to vehicle inspections, trailer movements and maintenance checks.
