Position Overview
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking two General Workers to join the Stores section at Tygerberg Hospital in Parow Valley.
The successful candidates will support the daily operations of the hospital’s stores and warehouse environment. Their responsibilities will include receiving, storing, picking, issuing and delivering stock to various wards, clinics, theatres and departments. They will also assist with stocktaking, maintaining clean and organised storage areas and keeping accurate records of stock deliveries.
This is a physically demanding position. Applicants must be capable of lifting and moving heavy boxes and bags and should be able to pull loaded pallets using a pallet jack. The minimum educational requirement is basic literacy and numeracy.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Picking: Select and prepare stock according to approved requests, orders and departmental requirements.
Stock Delivery: Deliver issued stock safely, accurately and on time to hospital wards, clinics, theatres and other departments.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate delivery documentation and ensure that there is a clear audit trail for stock issued and delivered.
Receiving Stock: Assist with receiving incoming goods and ensure that stock is handled and stored appropriately.
Issuing Stock: Assist in issuing stock to authorised hospital departments according to established procedures.
Stock Storage: Organise and store products correctly within the warehouse or stores environment to ensure efficient access and stock management.
Stocktaking: Participate in scheduled stock counts and assist with maintaining accurate inventory records.
Housekeeping: Keep storage areas, workspaces and stock areas clean, safe and organised.
Manual Handling: Safely lift, carry and move boxes, bags and other stock as required.
Pallet Handling: Use a pallet jack to move loaded pallets between the stores area and various hospital departments.
General Support: Assist with other warehouse and stores activities and perform reasonable additional duties when required.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Applicants must have basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Warehouse Knowledge: Appropriate knowledge of warehouse or stores operations.
Experience: Relevant experience within a warehouse management or stores environment.
Physical Ability: Candidates must be physically capable of lifting and moving heavy boxes and bags and pulling loaded pallets using a pallet jack.
Stocktaking: Willingness and ability to participate in stocktaking activities.

Salary and Benefits
The position offers a salary of R144,024 to R169,656 per annum. Depending on the applicable conditions of service, additional benefits may include a 13th cheque, an employer pension-fund contribution, a housing allowance and a medical-aid allowance.
