The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for a Food Services Aid position at Wesfleur Hospital in the Southern/Western Sub-structure, Western Cape. Salary and Benefits

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing, portioning, and serving meals for normal and special diets.

  • Assisting with receiving, storing, and controlling food supplies.

  • Preparing infant formula and tube feeds in the hospital milk kitchen.

  • Cleaning and sterilising feeding cups, utensils, and kitchen equipment.

  • Washing crockery, cooking utensils, and food preparation equipment.

  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.

  • Following all health and safety procedures when handling food and equipment.

  • Assisting with the informal training of newly appointed employees.

  • Attending compulsory in-service training and development programmes.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Appropriate experience in a hospital Food Service Unit.

  • Ability to prepare meals using standardised recipes.

  • Knowledge of National Food Service Guidelines.

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and basic equipment maintenance.

  • Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team.


Inherent Requirements

Candidates must be willing and able to:

  • Work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

  • Stand for extended periods during working hours.

  • Lift and move heavy objects when required.

  • Work inside large freezers and cold storage rooms.
