About the Position
Ampath Laboratories is seeking a dependable General Assistant (Cleaner) to join its team at Welkom Mediclinic in the Free State.
The successful applicant will be responsible for helping maintain a clean, hygienic and safe environment. The position includes routine cleaning, proper use and care of cleaning equipment, safe handling of cleaning products and assisting with the availability of essential cleaning supplies.
This permanent position may suit a reliable individual who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and can complete assigned duties with limited supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The General Assistant will be expected to:
- Carry out routine cleaning tasks in allocated areas.
- Maintain good standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Use cleaning products and equipment in accordance with safety instructions.
- Handle cleaning chemicals responsibly and according to workplace procedures.
- Assist with the correct disposal of general waste.
- Follow established procedures when handling hazardous waste, where applicable.
- Check cleaning materials and notify the relevant person when supplies need replenishing.
- Assist with maintaining adequate stock of cleaning products.
- Take reasonable care of vacuum cleaners, polishers and other cleaning equipment.
- Follow cleaning schedules and instructions provided by the employer.
- Complete allocated tasks accurately and within the required time.
- Work effectively both independently and with other members of the team.
Requirements and Skills
Applicants should ideally have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Experience operating basic cleaning equipment.
- An understanding of the safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Previous cleaning experience, particularly in a healthcare, laboratory or similarly controlled environment, would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of appropriate general and hazardous waste disposal procedures would be an advantage.
- Good organisational and time-management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- The ability to follow instructions and workplace procedures.
- The ability to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning-material stock management.
- The ability to use and care for routine cleaning equipment.
- A dependable and responsible approach to work.
Working Schedule
The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week over five days.
