About the Position


SAPS is seeking a qualified and registered Social Worker to provide comprehensive occupational social work services that promote the health, wellbeing, and resilience of SAPS employees. The successful candidate will deliver preventative, restorative, and community-based interventions while supporting governance processes and contributing to employee wellness programmes.

The position requires a dedicated professional who can work independently, collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, and uphold the highest ethical and professional standards.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering comprehensive occupational social work services through proactive intervention programmes.

  • Providing restorative social work services to SAPS members requiring professional support.

  • Implementing community work models and employee wellness initiatives.

  • Ensuring compliance with governance requirements and management information systems.

  • Supporting the National Head Office Social Work Services Movement Desk.

  • Promoting and creating awareness of SAPS Social Work Services.

  • Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams and relevant stakeholders.

  • Travelling when required to provide services, attend meetings, and participate in training programmes.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate, or National Certificate Vocational recorded on the National Learner Record Database at NQF Level 4).

  • four-year Degree in Social Work accredited by SAQA at NQF Level 7 or higher.

  • Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP), including valid registration for the 2026/2027 financial year.

  • A valid driver’s licence.

  • South African citizenship.

  • Computer literacy.

  • No criminal record or pending criminal, disciplinary, or civil cases.

  • No visible tattoos while wearing the SAPS uniform.

  • Medical, physical, and psychological fitness.


Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and occupational social work practices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and organisational abilities.

  • Report writing and presentation skills.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Planning, administration, and self-management skills.

  • Proficiency in:

    • Microsoft Word

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Microsoft Office

    • Microsoft PowerPoint

    • Microsoft Outlook

  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct.


Added Advantages

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Previous supervision or management experience.

  • Experience facilitating workshops and presentations.

  • Additional training or relevant professional development courses in social work or employee wellness.
