Fitness Training for SAPS Police Intake – Summary

The South African Police Service (SAPS) intake fitness training program is designed to ensure that all recruits meet the physical standards required for effective law enforcement duties. The training focuses on building strength, endurance, agility, and overall fitness to prepare candidates for the demands of police work.

Key components of the SAPS fitness program include:

  • Cardiovascular endurance: Running and high-intensity drills to improve stamina.
  • Strength training: Bodyweight and resistance exercises targeting core, upper, and lower body strength.

  • Agility and flexibility: Obstacle courses, stretching routines, and mobility drills.

  • Discipline and consistency: Structured daily routines to develop resilience and mental toughness.

All recruits must pass a Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA), which includes timed runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and shuttle runs. Regular fitness testing is conducted to monitor progress and ensure readiness for further police training phases.
