As a General Assistant, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining the day-to-day operations of the store and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a reliable, hardworking, and energetic General Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in a variety of in-store duties including customer service, stock receiving and merchandising, store maintenance, and safety compliance. This role is physically demanding and requires someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work on their feet for most of the day.

Key Responsibilities
As a General Assistant at Cashbuild, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
1. Customer Service

Assist walk-in customers with product selection and provide information about product features, pricing, and availability.

Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries and direct them to appropriate team members if needed.

Maintain a friendly, helpful, and approachable attitude at all times.

Ensure that customers leave the store satisfied with their experience.
2. Stock Receiving and Merchandising

Unload and receive deliveries of stock in accordance with store procedures and safety regulations.

Check delivery notes against products received and report discrepancies immediately.

Pack and arrange stock neatly on shelves and display areas according to merchandising plans.

Rotate stock regularly to ensure that older stock is sold first (FIFO method).

Ensure price tags are correctly displayed and updated when necessary.
3. Store Cleanliness and Organization

Keep the store environment clean, neat, and clutter-free at all times.

Sweep floors, clean shelves, and assist in maintaining a tidy storeroom.

Ensure shopping areas are safe for customers and staff by promptly removing any potential hazards.

Report any maintenance issues, spills, or damages to store management.
4. Safety and Security

Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations as outlined by company policy.

Use equipment such as trolleys and ladders safely and responsibly.

Report any observed safety hazards or incidents immediately.

Participate in regular safety drills and training as required.
5. Loss Prevention and Stock Integrity

Stay alert to potential theft, damage, or product loss and report anything suspicious to management.

Check stock for damages and defects before and after handling.

Assist with regular stock counts and inventory checks as directed by supervisors.

Ensure proper handling and storage of stock to prevent loss or spoilage.
6. Team Collaboration and Store Support

Work closely with your team and supervisors to achieve store goals and meet daily targets.

Be willing to assist with any tasks necessary to support overall store operations.

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and briefings to stay informed on company updates.

Adapt to changing store needs, including promotions, seasonal changes, and customer demand.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:

Educational Qualifications: Minimum Grade 10 (Standard 8) or NQF Level 3 equivalent.

Physical Ability: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy items and standing for long periods.

Communication Skills: Basic verbal communication and numeracy skills. Ability to interact clearly and respectfully with customers and coworkers.

Teamwork: Must be a reliable team player who works well with others in a fast-paced retail environment.

Flexibility: Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts.

Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions precisely and pay attention to safety and stock procedures.
