  8. Mechatronics Technician – Combining mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering to manage automated and robotic systems in advanced manufacturing.

Each programme provides an immersive learning experience combining theoretical instruction and practical on-site training.

Purpose of the Programme

The Technical Apprentice Programme aims to:

  • Develop and strengthen trade-related skills among young South Africans to address the national shortage of skilled artisans.

  • Provide structured workplace learning that aligns with national training standards and industry needs.

  • Empower local communities by creating employment opportunities and promoting technical education.

  • Prepare participants for industry-recognized trade tests upon successful completion of the programme.

  • Contribute to transformation and skills development, supporting the broader goals of the organisation and the country’s technical workforce.

By participating in this programme, apprentices gain exposure to real industrial environments, modern technologies, and safety practices, ensuring they graduate with the skills and confidence needed for long-term success.

Programme Administration

This apprenticeship is managed and overseen by the Technical Learning Academy (TLA). The TLA is responsible for coordinating training schedules, theoretical coursework, mentorship, and practical assessments. The Academy partners with certified training providers and mentors to ensure the highest quality of education and compliance with national artisan standards.

The programme is also supported by the Union, which works collaboratively with the Academy and the organisation to ensure fairness, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all participants.
