Minimum Requirements
To be considered for either of the Driver/Messenger posts, applicants must meet the following educational and professional requirements:

Educational Qualification:
A Grade 10 Certificate or Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) qualification.
(Applicants with higher qualifications such as Grade 12 or equivalent will also be considered.) -
Driver’s Licence:
A valid driver’s licence is mandatory. Applicants must be able to operate light and medium motor vehicles safely and efficiently. -
Knowledge:

Sound understanding of the Pretoria region and surrounding areas, including main routes and landmarks.

Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance and routine inspection procedures.

Basic awareness of office administrative functions such as filing, recordkeeping, and document control.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Driver/Messenger at the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, your primary responsibility will be to ensure safe and timely transportation of personnel, documents, and equipment, while also assisting in general administrative operations.
1. Transportation Duties

Operate light and medium motor vehicles to transport departmental officials, visitors, and other authorized passengers to various destinations as required.

Deliver and collect important items, including mail, documents, parcels, and office equipment, between government offices and external stakeholders.

Ensure that passengers are transported safely, courteously, and efficiently at all times.

Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive departmental correspondence and materials.
2. Document Collection and Distribution

Manage the movement of documents within the department to ensure they reach the appropriate offices on time.

Collect and deliver documents to other government departments, agencies, and service providers when required.

Exercise strict control over documents in transit to maintain security and prevent loss or damage.

Keep an updated logbook of all deliveries, collections, and trips completed.
3. Vehicle Maintenance and Recordkeeping

Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles to ensure they are in roadworthy condition.

Identify and report any vehicle defects or mechanical issues promptly to the transport or fleet management unit.

Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as checking oil, water, tyre pressure, and fuel levels.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle records, including trip sheets, logbooks, fuel consumption, and service schedules.

Ensure that all official vehicles are kept clean, well-maintained, and safely stored.
4. Registry and Office Support

Assist in registry functions such as filing, tracing, photocopying, faxing, and distributing documents.

Support administrative staff in managing office logistics and courier operations.

Help maintain the efficiency of departmental communication and document flow systems.

Carry out other ad hoc duties assigned by supervisors in line with departmental objectives.
