Job Purpose

Operate and maintain the forklift safely and cost-effectively while delivering excellent customer service in the store. Ensure proper merchandising, accurate shelf price labeling, and good housekeeping within the assigned area.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or at least 1 year of relevant work experience

  • Able to communicate in English and the main local language

  • Able to perform basic calculations accurately

  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Able to work under pressure

  • Physically fit to operate a forklift

  • Must hold a valid forklift license


Key Performance Area: Customer Service

  • Greet all customers and identify their needs

  • Provide accurate product advice

  • Assist with customer queries and resolve complaints promptly

  • Promote add-on sales (e.g., paint accessories, thinners)

  • Ensure customer purchases are loaded quickly and safely

  • Load goods carefully to avoid damage to products or vehicles

  • Inform customers about additional services, including:

    • Delivery and bulk deposits

    • Glass cutting

    • Plan reading

    • Credit programs

    • Special orders

    • Trusses

    • Distance ordering

    • VIC Customer Programme

  • Maintain certification in product knowledge

  • Be present and available in the assigned aisle


Merchandising Standards

  • Merchandise bulk stock safely and according to the store layout

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked based on layout plans and planograms

  • Follow approved merchandising guidelines at all times


Housekeeping

  • Keep the assigned area clean, safe, and free from obstacles

  • Ensure stock is packed out immediately after delivery

  • Make sure customers can move through aisles safely

  • Ensure shelf price labels are correct

  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and restroom schedules


Ready for Business

  • Follow “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” standards in line with CB Way


Loss Prevention and Security

  • Monitor displays for missing items and report concerns to management

  • Be alert to suspicious behavior and report it immediately

  • Do not load any goods without valid proof of purchase or required documents


Safety (OHSA) Responsibilities

  • Do not overload the forklift, shelving, or racking

  • Stack roof tiles, bricks, and cement no more than two pallets high

  • Wear required safety gear, including helmet and kidney belt

  • Never use the forklift to lift people

  • Keep store entrances and exits clear at all times

  • Report forklift faults immediately

  • Ensure forklift servicing is done on time

  • Wear protective clothing when required

  • Do not operate faulty equipment

  • Conduct daily forklift inspections and complete checklists
