Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, courteous, and customer-focused Petrol Attendant to join our team at a busy fuel station. The Petrol Attendant will be responsible for delivering fast, friendly, and professional service to customers by assisting them with fueling their vehicles, performing basic car checks, and handling payments at the pump or forecourt.
The ideal candidate will have a friendly disposition, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining safety and cleanliness standards. This role is essential in ensuring a positive customer experience and the smooth day-to-day operation of the station.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties of a Petrol Attendant include the following:
Customer Service

Greet customers promptly and courteously as they arrive at the station.

Provide friendly and efficient service throughout the customer’s visit.

Answer customer questions regarding fuel types, pricing, or station promotions.

Maintain a polite and professional demeanor at all times, even during busy periods.
Fuel Dispensing

Refuel vehicles accurately and safely, adhering to all safety protocols.

Ensure the correct type and amount of fuel is dispensed into each vehicle.

Prevent fuel spillage and follow emergency procedures in the event of an accident.
Vehicle Checks

Perform basic checks on vehicles upon customer request, including:

Oil levels

Water/coolant levels
-
Tire pressure
-
Windshield washer fluid
-

Clean windshields, mirrors, and headlights as needed or requested.

Report any noticeable vehicle issues to the customer or supervisor.
Payment Handling

Operate the station’s point-of-sale (POS) system to process payments.

Handle cash, card, and mobile/digital payment methods accurately and securely.

Issue correct receipts to customers.

Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of shift, if required.
Station Maintenance

Keep the forecourt clean and clear of litter, spills, or hazards.

Restock fuel pump supplies (e.g., paper towels, squeegees, window cleaner).

Perform light cleaning duties in and around the station as required.

Dispose of waste and ensure trash bins are regularly emptied.
Convenience Store Support (if applicable)

Assist customers inside the convenience store, if part of the station’s operation.

Help with shelf restocking, stock rotation, and inventory checks.

Maintain cleanliness and organization in customer-facing areas.
Minimum Requirements
To be successful in this role, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

Education: Basic literacy and numeracy (Grade 10 or equivalent preferred).

Experience: Prior experience in retail, customer service, or fuel stations is an advantage but not mandatory.

Skills:

Basic math and cash-handling ability.

Good verbal communication skills.

Attention to detail when dispensing fuel or checking vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods.

Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (sun, rain, wind, cold).

Able to bend, stretch, and lift moderately heavy items (e.g., fuel caps, cleaning tools).

Working Conditions
This position involves working outdoors, often in varying weather conditions. Shift work is standard, and Petrol Attendants may be required to work weekends, holidays, and early or late shifts, depending on station hours.
The job may also involve standing or walking for extended periods, and occasional physical activity, such as lifting small supplies or equipment.
