About the Programme
Transnet, one of South Africa’s largest state-owned enterprises, invites unemployed youth to apply for its 2025 Apprenticeship Programme. This initiative is designed for individuals interested in technical trades, including:

The programme offers a combination of hands-on practical training and classroom-based learning at accredited institutions, ultimately leading to a nationally recognised trade qualification. Apprentices will train under experienced artisans and gain valuable on-the-job experience at various Transnet sites, including Durban, Koedoespoort, Salt River, Bloemfontein, Germiston, North End, and Cambridge.

Programme Objective
The apprenticeship aims to prepare participants for artisan roles through structured work experience and classroom learning. Apprentices will work alongside qualified professionals while completing National Technical Certificate Courses.
Key Duties
-
Prepare job sites with appropriate tools, materials, and equipment

Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
-
Assemble, install, and connect components relevant to your trade
-
Test and maintain electrical, mechanical, and welding systems
-
Conduct repairs and ensure equipment meets required standards

Comply with all safety, health, and quality regulations
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess one of the following:
-
N2 Certificate with trade-related theory subjects
-
N3 Certificate in Industrial Electronics, Engineering Science, Mathematics (Pure), Electro-technology, Engineering Drawing, or Fitting & Machining
-
NCV Level 4 with Mathematics (Pure), English, Life Orientation, and trade-related subjects
-
Technical Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, Engineering Graphics, and trade-relevant technical subjects
Additional Requirement:

Age between 18 and 35 years
