This initiative forms part of a broader national drive to combat youth unemployment in South Africa. Through the YES programme, Eskom is offering thousands of young South Africans the opportunity to gain meaningful workplace experience, improve their employability, and take a critical first step into the professional world.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 34, currently unemployed, and seeking a life-changing opportunity to begin your career in a dynamic and impactful sector, this internship may be your gateway to success.

About Eskom

Eskom is a state-owned enterprise responsible for generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity to millions of South Africans and neighboring countries. We are the primary provider of electricity in South Africa, responsible for around 95% of the country’s electricity and approximately 45% of electricity used in Africa.

As a key enabler of economic growth, Eskom is committed not only to delivering reliable energy but also to investing in the development of South Africa’s future workforce. Our partnership with the YES initiative is one of many steps we are taking to ensure young people have access to employment opportunities, training, and development.

What is the YES Programme?

The Youth Employment Service (YES) is a public-private initiative led by the South African Presidency, aimed at creating one million work opportunities for unemployed youth over the next few years. YES provides young South Africans with paid, quality work experiences to help bridge the gap between education and permanent employment.

This programme targets first-time job seekers who lack the experience necessary to secure employment. It gives participants access to a 12-month structured workplace experience, mentorship, and training to enhance their professional skills and increase their employability.

By participating in YES, Eskom is helping to transform the country’s economic future—one intern at a time.

Programme Objectives

  • To provide work experience to unemployed youth through structured placements at Eskom operational sites.

  • To offer exposure to different business units such as administration, engineering, finance, customer service, logistics, and more.
