The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting applications from dedicated, reliable, and hardworking individuals to fill the position of Cleaner at the Pretoria Head Office. This role plays an important part in ensuring a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment for SAPS personnel and visitors. Maintaining cleanliness is vital to the efficient operation of the department, and the successful candidate will contribute directly to creating a professional and orderly workplace.

As a Cleaner, you will be responsible for performing a range of daily cleaning duties within and outside the SAPS premises. This includes keeping offices, corridors, kitchens, restrooms, and common areas neat, sanitized, and well-maintained. The position requires someone with a strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assigned tasks independently and efficiently.

You must be comfortable handling basic cleaning materials and equipment, follow safety procedures, and be willing to work extended hours—including weekends and public holidays—when necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Grade 10 qualification (or equivalent) will serve as an advantage.

  • Basic reading, writing, numeracy, and communication skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning materials, tools, and procedures.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when required.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the interior and exterior of SAPS facilities in a clean and hygienic condition at all times.

  • Perform cleaning duties such as dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they are stocked with supplies such as soap, tissue, and hand towels.

  • Wash and maintain kitchen areas, utensils, and appliances.

  • Safely collect and dispose of waste, refuse, and recycling materials.

  • Handle and store cleaning chemicals and tools safely according to provided guidelines.

  • Report any damages, maintenance needs, or equipment issues to supervisors promptly.

  • Assist with occasional special cleaning projects or duties as directed by management.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks.

  • Good time management and reliability to complete tasks on schedule.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.

  • Basic understanding of hygiene and occupational health standards.

  • Honest, punctual, and self-motivated with a positive attitude toward work.
