Position Title: General Worker
Salary: R131,265 per annum / R138,486 per annum (Level 02 – depending on placement)

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the General Worker position, applicants must meet the following entry-level requirements:

  • Grade 8 / ABET Level 2 or equivalent qualification (minimum)

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills

  • Ability to read and write English and/or local languages

  • Basic understanding of security and safety procedures

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The General Worker role involves supporting the department in day-to-day operational tasks essential for maintaining government water infrastructure, dam operations, and redline area control.

Primary Duties Include:

Farming and Livestock Management

  • Conduct routine manual farming tasks and fieldwork

  • Assist in handling and movement control of cloven-hooved animals

  • Trace and monitor livestock tracks around redline boundaries

  • Support quarantine control and livestock permit checking

Security, Inspection & Compliance

  • Stop, inspect, register, and search vehicles entering redline zones

  • Confiscate prohibited agricultural products and items where applicable

  • Control entry and exit points and open/close perimeter gates

  • Maintain accurate logs and registers for vehicles, animals, and permits

Infrastructure & Maintenance

  • Conduct patrol inspections along the perimeter fences

  • Perform fencing repairs and routine upkeep

  • Clear bushes, vegetation, and maintain pathways around infrastructure

  • Assist in general cleaning, site support, and basic maintenance work

Recordkeeping & Reporting

  • Maintain records of permit checks, quarantined animals, and vehicle logs

  • Write short incident reports and communicate operational issues to supervisors

This role requires a high level of physical activity, reliability, teamwork, and the ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
