Job Opportunity: Cleaner – South African Police Service (SAPS)

The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites applications from hardworking and committed individuals for the position of Cleaner. This role is vital in maintaining a clean, hygienic, and orderly environment that supports the effective functioning of SAPS offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas of SAPS premises, ensuring a safe and healthy workspace for all staff.

The Cleaner will carry out daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitising offices, bathrooms, kitchens, and other shared areas. Responsibilities also include proper waste disposal and the safe handling and storage of cleaning equipment and materials. The ideal candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or public holidays when required is essential.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills

  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions

  • Grade 10 qualification will be an advantage

  • Experience or familiarity with basic cleaning equipment and materials

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of SAPS buildings and surrounding areas

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, and waste removal

  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms and ensure adequate supply of consumables

  • Clean kitchen areas, including utensils and appliances

  • Safely use, store, and safeguard cleaning materials and equipment

  • Report maintenance issues or damages to supervisors

  • Assist with additional cleaning duties as required
