Government departments across South Africa are seeking dependable and hardworking individuals to fill the position of Government Cleaner. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within government offices and facilities. This role plays an essential part in ensuring that employees, visitors, and the public operate in a clean, safe, and healthy environment.

Government Cleaners will be assigned to different departments across the nine provinces and are expected to carry out cleaning duties in accordance with established procedures, health regulations, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the Government Cleaner include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Performing general cleaning and housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors and surfaces

• Cleaning and sanitising designated areas, including offices, restrooms, meeting rooms, and workspaces

• Emptying refuse bins and ensuring proper disposal of waste and recyclable materials

• Cleaning mirrors, windows, glass panels, and other reflective surfaces

• Maintaining cleanliness in common areas such as corridors, stairways, entrances, and reception areas

• Following approved cleaning procedures, schedules, and protocols at all times

• Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and hygiene standards

• Using cleaning equipment, chemicals, and materials safely and correctly

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

• Minimum education level of Grade 9, ABET, AET, or an equivalent qualification

• Previous experience in cleaning or janitorial services will be an advantage but is not compulsory

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks thoroughly

• Good organisational and time-management skills

• Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour duties

• Basic knowledge of cleaning materials, tools, and equipment is advantageous

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required
