Cashier Job Description

Job Title: Cashier
Department: Front-End / Customer Service
Reporting To: Front-End Supervisor / Store Manager


Job Purpose

To provide efficient and friendly checkout service to customers by accurately processing transactions, handling payments, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Scan and process customer purchases accurately and efficiently

  • Handle cash, card, vouchers, and other payment methods

  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change correctly

  • Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts

  • Maintain a clean and organised checkout area

  • Assist customers with enquiries in a professional manner

  • Promote store loyalty programmes and special promotions

  • Follow company policies regarding cash handling and security

  • Report discrepancies or suspicious activities to management

  • Adhere to health and safety procedures


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) preferred

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills

  • Previous cashier or retail experience advantageous

  • Ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

  • Clear criminal record

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Honest and trustworthy

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Basic computer and POS system knowledge

  • Team player with a positive attitude
