Overview
A position is available within Scientific Services for a Technical General Worker based at Shingwedzi Research Camp in Kruger National Park. The role focuses on maintaining the camp’s grounds, infrastructure, and facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment. The successful candidate will assist with landscaping, maintenance work, and general upkeep while following Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification
- 1–2 years of practical experience in a maintenance-related role
- Brush cutter competency certificate
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Valid driver’s licence
- Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Physically fit and able to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, gardening, and standing for long periods
- Ability to operate maintenance machinery
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-driven, responsible, and disciplined
- Willingness to work weekends and public holidays

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain camp grounds and vegetation through landscaping and brush cutting
- Perform routine maintenance on infrastructure such as buildings, roads, fences, and water systems
- Carry out minor repairs including electrical, plumbing, welding, and carpentry tasks within skill level
- Conduct painting and general repair work
- Clean shared spaces including campgrounds, braai areas, fireplaces, and other communal facilities
- Remove rubbish and maintain overall cleanliness of the research camp
- Clean and maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, and machinery
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety procedures at all times
- Assist with cleaning accommodation facilities when required
- Support supply collection and stock counting
- Report major faults or maintenance issues to the Camp Supervisor
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
