R138,690.74 – R182,902.28 per year
(Paterson B1 Job Grade, including allowances and benefits in line with South African National Parks Conditions of Service)


Overview

A position is available within Scientific Services for a Technical General Worker based at Shingwedzi Research Camp in Kruger National Park. The role focuses on maintaining the camp’s grounds, infrastructure, and facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment. The successful candidate will assist with landscaping, maintenance work, and general upkeep while following Occupational Health and Safety standards.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification
  • 1–2 years of practical experience in a maintenance-related role
  • Brush cutter competency certificate
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Physically fit and able to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, gardening, and standing for long periods
  • Ability to operate maintenance machinery
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-driven, responsible, and disciplined
  • Willingness to work weekends and public holidays

Advantage:

  • First Aid Level 1 certification

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain camp grounds and vegetation through landscaping and brush cutting
  • Perform routine maintenance on infrastructure such as buildings, roads, fences, and water systems
  • Carry out minor repairs including electrical, plumbing, welding, and carpentry tasks within skill level
  • Conduct painting and general repair work
  • Clean shared spaces including campgrounds, braai areas, fireplaces, and other communal facilities
  • Remove rubbish and maintain overall cleanliness of the research camp
  • Clean and maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety procedures at all times
  • Assist with cleaning accommodation facilities when required
  • Support supply collection and stock counting
  • Report major faults or maintenance issues to the Camp Supervisor
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
