Introduction

We are currently seeking General Workers who are energetic, reliable, and eager to contribute to the success of our stores. The role of a General Worker is vital in ensuring that our stores operate smoothly on a daily basis. Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to support store operations by performing a variety of tasks that ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, stock availability, and customer readiness of the store. General Workers contribute to all aspects of store function, including packing shelves, assisting customers, offloading deliveries, and maintaining hygiene standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Stock Handling and Merchandising

-Assist with the unpacking and offloading of incoming stock deliveries.

-Ensure that all stock is neatly and correctly packed onto shelves, displays, or cold storage areas.

-Rotate stock using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method to prevent expiry.

-Report damaged or expired items to the supervisor immediately.

-Keep shelves, fridges, and storage areas clean and orderly.

-Participate in regular stock counts and inventory checks.

-Ensure promotional and pricing labels are accurate and up to date.

2. Store Maintenance and Cleanliness

-Perform daily cleaning duties, including mopping, sweeping, wiping down counters, fridges, and store equipment.

-Clean and sanitize high-traffic areas, including entryways, till points, and customer waiting areas.

-Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately and regularly.

-Maintain cleanliness in staff break rooms and restrooms where required.

-Comply with store hygiene, safety, and health regulations at all times.

3. Customer Service Support

-Greet customers politely and assist them in locating products.

-Answer simple product-related questions or refer customers to appropriate staff members for assistance.

-Help customers carry items to their vehicles if required and authorized.

-Offer support during busy periods such as holidays, paydays, and weekends.

-Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times.

4. Receiving and Dispatching

-Assist with receiving stock from suppliers by checking quantities and quality.

-Move received stock to designated areas and assist in updating stock records (if required).

-Safely use trolleys, pallet jacks, or hand-held equipment to move stock within the store.

-Report any discrepancies or theft suspicions to management.

5. Safety and Security

-Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed while working, including proper lifting techniques and using personal protective equipment (PPE) where applicable.

-Be alert to suspicious behavior and report security risks to the store manager or security officer.

-Support in emergency situations, such as fire evacuations or first aid assistance, as per training.


Minimum Requirements

-Education: Grade 10 minimum (Grade 12 / Matric preferred).

-Age: Must be at least 18 years old.

-Language Proficiency: Basic command of English; additional local language proficiency is advantageous.

-Legal: Must be a South African citizen or possess valid work authorization.

-Criminal Record: Clean criminal background required.


Experience and Skills

-Previous experience in retail or stock handling is an advantage but not essential.

-Physically fit and capable of standing, lifting, bending, and walking for long periods.

-Strong attention to detail, especially in stock rotation and cleanliness.

-Team player with the ability to work well under pressure.

-Good interpersonal skills and a customer-first attitude.

-Willingness to follow instructions and store protocols consistently.

Working Hours

-Monday to Sunday shifts, depending on store schedules.

-Morning, afternoon, or evening shifts may be scheduled.

-Must be available to work on weekends and public holidays, as these are peak trading times.
