Programme Summary:

The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, invites enthusiastic, unemployed youth to apply for the Professional Cookery Learnership Programme. This initiative is designed to create new employment pathways and foster skills development within South Africa’s growing hospitality and tourism sector.

Through a blend of academic instruction and practical workplace experience, successful learners will be equipped with the essential knowledge and competencies required to pursue careers in professional kitchens, hotels, restaurants, catering services, and other culinary environments.

The programme promotes diversity and inclusion, and youth living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.


Programme Duration & Structure:

This is a 12-month learnership that combines structured classroom-based education with hands-on workplace exposure. Participants will be required to sign a formal learnership agreement, committing them to full participation for the entire duration.

Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, learners should be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

-Age: Between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application.

-Education: Must have completed Grade 12 / Matric, with English as a subject. A formal qualification in Tourism or Hospitality will be advantageous.

-Documentation:

-Certified copy of ID document

-Certified copy of Matric certificate (and other relevant qualifications)

-Motivational letter explaining interest in hospitality and commitment to the programme

-Comprehensive CV

-Recent proof of residence (not older than 3 months)

-Previous Participation: If you have participated in any previous Department of Tourism learnership or skills rogramme, this must be disclosed clearly in your motivational letter.

Passion for Hospitality: A genuine interest in the tourism, hospitality, or culinary field is essential.
