Role Purpose

The primary purpose of the Packaging Operator role is to safely and effectively operate and maintain specific packaging machinery and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to smooth production operations while ensuring adherence to strict safety, hygiene, and quality standards.

This is a key frontline position in our production line, where precision, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset are essential to delivering high performance.


Key Responsibilities

As a Packaging Operator at SAB, you will be expected to:

  • Operate Packaging Equipment: Manage both manual and automated machinery on the packaging line in accordance with company and industry standards.

  • Implement the Shift Production Plan: Interpret and execute the production schedule for your shift to ensure targets are met.

  • Maintain Operational Efficiency: Monitor equipment performance and manage associated packaging processes to ensure optimal uptime and productivity.

  • Ensure Product and Process Quality: Follow established quality control procedures, conduct regular checks, and take immediate corrective actions when required.

  • Adhere to Hygiene and Food Safety Standards: Maintain strict compliance with cleanliness protocols and food safety guidelines, creating a safe environment for both staff and consumers.

  • Perform Administrative Functions: Accurately document production metrics, monitor performance data, and respond promptly to operational deviations.

  • Manage Digital Process Systems: Utilize systems such as PIMS (Process Information Management System) and POMS (Production Operations Management System) to track production trends and performance. Take corrective actions in response to any negative indicators.

  • Use Operational Feedback Reports (OFRs): Apply OFRs effectively based on specified triggers to support continual improvement and issue resolution.

  • Support Reporting Requirements: Assist in compiling and submitting reports (including AB InBev operational reports) as needed by your supervisor or production manager.

  • Maintain a Safe Working Environment: Proactively contribute to the health and safety of the workplace, complying with all SAB safety standards and protocols.


Minimum Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification:
    A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate is a minimum requirement.

  • Training and Certification:
    Completion of a minimum of 9 months on-the-job training in a packaging or related production environment. Candidates must also complete SKAP (Standardized Key Action Procedures) within 12 months of employment.

  • Work Experience:
    Prior experience in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector—specifically in packaging operations—is highly desirable. Candidates with hands-on exposure to high-speed manufacturing and quality-controlled environments will have a distinct advantage.

  • Ability to interpret production schedules and follow standard operating procedures.
