Job Overview

The Sales Assistant at Clicks plays a vital role in delivering excellent customer service while supporting the store’s daily retail operations. The primary purpose of this position is to assist customers in finding the right products, promote sales and loyalty programmes, and ensure that the store environment is welcoming, well-stocked, and compliant with Clicks’ high operational standards. Sales Assistants are the face of the Clicks brand and are expected to uphold the company’s values by providing professional, friendly, and efficient service at all times.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet customers warmly as they enter the store and offer assistance in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Actively listen to customer needs and provide accurate product information and recommendations.

  • Assist customers with queries related to health, beauty, personal care, and household products while staying within company guidelines.

  • Resolve basic customer complaints or escalate them to management when necessary.

  • Ensure a positive shopping experience that encourages customer loyalty and repeat visits.

Sales and Promotions

  • Promote Clicks products, special offers, promotions, and in-store campaigns.

  • Encourage customers to sign up for and use the Clicks ClubCard loyalty programme.

  • Meet or exceed individual and store sales targets by applying effective selling techniques.

  • Upsell and cross-sell products where appropriate to maximize sales opportunities.

Point of Sale Operations

  • Accurately operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.

  • Process cash, card, and digital payments efficiently and securely.

  • Handle refunds and exchanges in line with company policies.

  • Balance cash drawers and report discrepancies to management.

Merchandising and Stock Control

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked, correctly priced, and neatly arranged according to Clicks merchandising standards.

  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, and checking stock deliveries.

  • Rotate stock to ensure older items are sold first and expiry dates are monitored.

  • Report low stock levels, damaged goods, or discrepancies to supervisors.

Housekeeping and Store Standards

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the store, including shelves, counters, and storage areas.

  • Ensure promotional displays and signage are accurate and visually appealing.

  • Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations at all times.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth store operations.

  • Support team members during busy periods.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding customer feedback, stock issues, or operational challenges.

Compliance and Ethics

  • Adhere to Clicks policies, procedures, and code of conduct.

  • Follow loss prevention and security procedures to minimize shrinkage.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding company information and customer data.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate

  • Previous retail or customer service experience (advantageous but not essential)

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (additional languages are an advantage)

  • Willingness to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
