Main Purpose of the Job
To respond to emergency calls and provide intermediate medical care to patients in accordance with the approved scope of practice. The role aims to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical services while upholding ER24’s professional standards and public image.
Key Responsibility Areas
Operational Readiness

Ensure readiness of emergency response vehicles, medical equipment, and supplies at all times.

Conduct routine vehicle and equipment checks in line with ER24 operational procedures.

Maintain compliance with safety, hygiene, and operational standards.

Respond promptly and effectively to emergency calls as dispatched.
Patient Care
-
Assess, treat, and stabilise patients according to the approved scope of practice.

Administer emergency medical care in line with HPCSA guidelines and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).

Accurately complete Patient Report Forms (PRFs) and all related documentation.

Ensure safe patient handling, transport, and handover to receiving healthcare facilities.

Apply best clinical practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Professional Conduct and Public Image

Promote and maintain a positive public image for ER24 at all times.

Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and ethical conduct when interacting with patients, families, and the public.

Work collaboratively with team members, dispatch, and other emergency services.
Required Education
Essential Education
-
Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) Certificate OR
-
Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care
Desired Education
-
Successful completion of training related to the Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) will be advantageous.

Applicants not compliant with the current Clinical Practice Guidelines at the time of application will be required to complete the necessary training during the probation period if appointed.
Required Experience
Essential Minimum Experience

Minimum of 1 year Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience
Desired Experience

Minimum of 1 year Intermediate Life Support (ILS) experience
Required Job Skills and Knowledge

Application of best clinical and operational practices

Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and approved scope of practice

Understanding of facilities, travel routes, and demographical areas

Accurate completion of Patient Report Forms (PRFs)

Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)

Proficiency in English (written and verbal)

Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations
